Which Safari Should You Choose?
- 3 days: Choose this option if time is limited and the Masai Mara is your main priority.
- 4 days: Add Lake Nakuru for a contrasting wildlife setting without extending to a full week.
- 5 days: Combine the Mara and Nakuru with Lake Naivasha and activities specified in your chosen package.
- 7 days: Include Amboseli alongside the Mara and Rift Valley lakes.
- 8 days: Allow an additional night in the Masai Mara while visiting the same four destinations as the seven-day route.
Sample 4-Day Kenya Group Safari: Travel Time and Game Drives
This example shows how a Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru group safari balances road transfers with wildlife viewing. Driving times are approximate and vary with traffic, road conditions, pickup arrangements and stops.
| Day | Route and approximate transfer time | Wildlife-viewing schedule | Overnight stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1: Nairobi → Masai Mara | Allow approximately 5–6 hours for the road journey, with additional time for group pickups and stops. | Afternoon game drive after arrival, subject to arrival time and park-entry arrangements. | Miti Mingi Eco Camp or the confirmed alternative |
| Day 2: Full day in Masai Mara | No transfer between destinations. Driving within the reserve forms part of the game drive. | Full-day game drive, usually with a picnic lunch, exploring wildlife areas selected by your guide. | Miti Mingi Eco Camp or the confirmed alternative |
| Day 3: Masai Mara → Lake Nakuru area | Allow approximately 5–6 hours, depending on your camp location, route and stops. | Primarily a transfer day. A morning Mara game drive is included only where expressly stated in your itinerary and covered by the park-entry arrangements. | Buraha Zenoni Hotel or the confirmed alternative |
| Day 4: Lake Nakuru → Nairobi | After visiting Lake Nakuru National Park, allow approximately 3–4 hours for the return journey to Nairobi. | Morning game drive in Lake Nakuru, followed by the return transfer. | No overnight accommodation included |
Planning Tip: Compare Game-Drive Time, Not Just Safari Days
A four-day safari includes travel days as well as wildlife viewing. This example provides one full day in the Masai Mara, alongside shorter game drives on arrival and at Lake Nakuru. If the Mara is your main priority, compare the number of nights and full game-drive days before choosing a longer itinerary.

How Group Joining Works
A Kenya group joining safari allows you to book a place on a shared itinerary rather than organise your own private tour. You travel with fellow guests, sharing the safari vehicle, driver-guide and game drives. Solo travellers, couples and friends can join without filling an entire vehicle.
Shared Vehicle and Daily Schedule
Travel in a shared 4×4 safari Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, accommodating up to 6–7 travellers, depending on the vehicle configuration. Your driver-guide coordinates departure times, stops and game-drive routes for the group, taking wildlife activity and road conditions into account.
Everyone follows the confirmed itinerary. Individual requests may be accommodated where practical within the shared schedule.
Vehicle Sharing and Room Sharing
Sharing a safari vehicle does not automatically mean sharing a room. Couples and friends can request a twin or double room. Solo travellers can ask about room-sharing availability or request a single room at an additional cost.
Your quotation confirms your room arrangement, accommodation and any supplement before booking.
Accommodation Upgrades and Optional Activities
Accommodation upgrades may be available where the selected property fits the group’s route and pickup arrangements. A lodge upgrade does not include a private vehicle: transport and game drives remain shared unless separately quoted.
Optional activities, such as balloon safaris or cultural visits, depend on availability and compatibility with the group schedule. Their costs and any effect on scheduled activities are explained before you book.
Prices, Room Sharing and Single Supplements

Your Kenya group safari price depends on the itinerary, travel dates, accommodation and room arrangement. Compare prices on the individual package pages, then request a quotation for your preferred 2027–2028 departure.
Understanding Your Safari Price
| Price detail | What it means |
|---|---|
| Per person sharing | The rate applies to each traveller sharing a twin or double room, according to the package’s stated occupancy basis. |
| Starting price | The lowest advertised rate applies to the accommodation and travel dates specified for that package. |
| Seasonal rates | Prices may differ during migration months, festive holidays and other busy periods. |
| Park fees | Check the package’s inclusions. Your quotation identifies the scheduled park visits covered by your price. |
| Accommodation upgrades | Higher-category camps or lodges carry an additional charge and must fit the shared departure arrangements. |
| Children’s prices | Quoted according to each child’s age, travel dates and room arrangement. |
Room Sharing for Solo Travellers
Solo travellers can book a place on a group safari. If you would like to share accommodation, tell us when you enquire so we can check whether a suitable arrangement is available.
Room sharing is subject to availability and your agreement. Booking a shared safari vehicle does not automatically include sharing a room with another traveller.
Single-Room Supplements
If you prefer your own room or tent, request a single-occupancy quotation. A single-room supplement covers the additional accommodation cost; your transport and game drives remain shared.
We will state the supplement amount and whether it applies per night or for the entire safari. If room sharing is unavailable, we will explain the single-room cost before you confirm your booking.
What Your Quotation Confirms
Before payment, your written quotation sets out:
- The total price and applicable travel dates.
- Named accommodation and room or tent category.
- Twin, double or single occupancy.
- Included park visits, meals, transport and game drives.
- Any supplements, optional activities and transfer charges.
- Deposit, balance payment, and cancellation terms.
Accommodation and Vehicles
Where You Stay
Our Kenya group joining safaris use camps, hotels and lodges selected for the route and accommodation category you book. Budget packages focus on practical overnight stays, while accommodation upgrades may be available at an additional cost.
| Accommodation option | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Budget tented camps | Tented accommodation with beds. Your quotation confirms bathroom facilities and the tent category. |
| Budget hotels and lodges | Room accommodation on selected routes, including overnight stops around the Rift Valley lakes. |
| Lodge or tented-camp upgrades | Alternative properties, subject to availability and compatibility with the shared itinerary. |
The 4-day Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru budget group safari includes two nights at Miti Mingi Eco Camp and one night at Buraha Zenoni Hotel. Accommodation for other packages is specified in your quotation. Any proposed substitute property is explained before booking confirmation.
Share your room preferences, dietary requirements and any accessibility needs when you enquire so we can assess suitable arrangements.
Shared 4×4 Safari Land Cruisers
Travel and game drives take place in a shared 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, accompanied by a professional English-speaking driver-guide.
- Vehicle capacity: Up to 6–7 travellers, depending on the vehicle configuration.
- Game viewing: The pop-up roof provides viewing and photography opportunities during game drives.
- Shared schedule: Your guide coordinates stops, departure times and wildlife-viewing routes for the group.
- Luggage: Ask for the allowance for your departure before packing; storage space is shared.
- Longer itineraries: Your joining information confirms whether vehicle or guide changes are planned along the route.
Accommodation upgrades retain shared transport and game drives. If you prefer an exclusive vehicle and a more flexible itinerary, request a separate private safari quotation.

Best Time for a Kenya Group Safari
Kenya group safaris offer wildlife-viewing opportunities throughout the year. Your preferred travel dates depend on whether you prioritise migration herds, generally drier conditions, quieter parks or lower accommodation rates.
| Travel period | What to expect | Planning advice |
|---|---|---|
| January–February | Often warm and relatively dry, with opportunities to see resident wildlife. | Consider these months for a safari outside the busiest migration period. |
| March–May | The main rainy season generally brings greener landscapes and wetter roads. | Ask about lower-season rates and allow flexibility for weather conditions. |
| June–October | Generally drier conditions and a popular wildlife-viewing period. | Book ahead, particularly for July–October Masai Mara departures. |
| November–December | Short rains may occur; wildlife viewing continues amid greener scenery. | Check availability early for Christmas and New Year travel. |
Masai Mara Migration Season
July–October is the usual window for migrating wildebeest and zebra herds in the Masai Mara. Their arrival, location and departure vary with rainfall and grazing conditions. Mara River crossings cannot be guaranteed.
If migration viewing is your main priority, consider a package with more nights in the Mara. Additional time gives your guide more opportunities to respond to herd movements within the shared itinerary.
Choosing Dates for Your Budget
Travel outside the busiest migration and festive periods may offer lower accommodation rates and fewer visitors. Compare the total package price for your dates, including park fees and room arrangements, rather than assuming every quieter month has the same rate.
Weather varies from year to year, and wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
Guide & Expert Insights for Kenya Group Safaris
Protect Your Game-Drive Time
Compare the daily schedule, not just the number of safari days. Road transfers take up part of shorter itineraries. Look for full days dedicated to wildlife viewing, and check whether the final morning includes a game drive or only the return journey.
Check Camp Location Before Upgrading
A lodge upgrade must work with the shared vehicle’s route. Ask how the property’s location affects pickup times, travel to the park gate and returning after game drives. A more expensive lodge does not automatically give you more time viewing wildlife.
Plan Around the Shared Schedule
Your guide chooses game-drive routes for the whole group, considering wildlife activity, road conditions and available time. Mention priorities such as photography or migration viewing before booking so we can assess whether the itinerary suits you. River crossings and particular animal sightings cannot be promised.
