Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park – Tanzania’s Hidden Safari Gem
Why Visit Tarangire National Park?
Tarangire National Park is a lesser-known but equally spectacular gem in northern Tanzania. Located just two hours from Arusha, Tarangire offers a quieter, more intimate safari experience compared to the Serengeti—without sacrificing wildlife sightings.
What Makes Tarangire Special?
Tarangire is renowned for having one of the largest elephant populations in East Africa. In the dry season (June to October), thousands of elephants migrate to the Tarangire River, creating one of Africa’s greatest wildlife spectacles.
You’ll also encounter lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, and more than 500 bird species, including the vibrant yellow-collared lovebird and kori bustard.
Unique Landscape & Baobab Trees
The park is dotted with ancient baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, creating an iconic African landscape ideal for photographers and nature lovers.
Best Time to Visit Tarangire
Dry season (June to October) is ideal for wildlife viewing as animals gather around the river. The green season (November to May) brings lush scenery, migratory birds, and fewer crowds—perfect for photographers and birders.
Include Tarangire in Your Itinerary
Tarangire pairs seamlessly with the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater in a classic northern circuit safari. For example, our 6-Day Big Five Safari Tour starts in Tarangire and explores the best of Tanzania.
